DC Comics have launched the first in a three-part series of Instagram-exclusive prelude comics for “Batman” #92 by the creative team of the series, writer James Tynion IV, artist Guillem March, colorist Tomeu Morey, and letterer Clayton Cowles. The first part in the series consists of 10 panels, and is designed to be read in the portrait orientation of a mobile device.
The first comic focuses on the the Joker and his newest partner, Punchline, with details about the rest of the preludes not revealed. “Batman” #92 will see the creative team continuing with their current arc, ‘Dark Designs,’ although the ‘Joker War’ is looming and set to start in issue #95. “Batman” #92 was originally scheduled to be release in April, but following the outbreak of the coronavirus leading Diamond to stop shipping comics on April 1, the issue was delayed. It is now scheduled for release on June 9.
Tynion announced the preludes via Twitter, saying, “Hey! While on break, I cooked up a handful of prelude stories with Guillem March to give you a taste of Gotham while you’re waiting for Batman to return next month. They’ll be on DC’s Instagram, in their stories. The first of them is up now, featuring PUNCHLINE!”
It is unclear at this time as to whether or not these prelude comics will ever see release in print. You can view the prelude webcomics via DC’s official Instagram page, as well as Guillem March’s, although registration is required to read the “story.”
