Time Masters: Vanishing Point was originally thought of as a tie-in for the Return of Bruce Wayne that eventually morphed more into the continuation of Dan Jurgen’s Booster gold run more than anything else. While it was enjoyable for those that followed Jurgen’s run, it ultimately felt out of place for a Return of the Bruce Wayne tie-in and even a Booster Gold tie-in, with the delays certainly hurting the book.
However, with this week and the final issue, we have somewhat of an interesting turn of events with the title that hopefully make the mini feel a bit more relevant in collector’s homes. As the final page was turned, a new blackboard was revealed (similar to Rip Hunter’s blackboard from 52 that fans loved debating over so much), at which point Rip notes that he didn’t actually write any of this (dun dun dun!). Normally, we wouldn’t post spoilers like this, but to be fair this isn’t the same as the death of a Fantastic Four member and it doesn’t actually take away from how the story wraps up at all.
Now, most of the information here connects to things we already kinda knew about Flashpoint, but there are some additional notes here to think about:
- The “Heroine of Gemworld” seems to be a reference to the return of Amethyst, who hasn’t been seen since Infinite Crisis (unless this is part of the twisted continuity of the new Flashpoint universe and it’s someone else).
- “The Changing Man” would assumedly be a reference to the character Shade from Peter Milligan’s Vertigo title, which makes sense as DC did note they wanted to integrate more Vertigo characters back into the DCU and Shade started as a DCU character (not to be confused with Shade that James Robinson is writing in JLA from Starborn). It’s additionally interesting to note that Milligan did state Shade would return, so this is assumedly how.
- “S!H!A!Z!A!M!” could potentially link to the Bleeding Cool rumor of how the last Flashpoint title is SHAZAM Agents, and this could possibly be the alt-world replacement of THUNDER Agents (maybe?).
- “God Bless The Cyborg!” could possibly be a reference to Cyborg Superman Hank Henshaw who, in a world without Superman, might have some greater purpose? Henshaw will be returning once again in Reign of Doomsday, so it’s not far off to assume he might have some kind of prominent role in the alt-universe (although, in a world without Superman, his existence is probably invalid…)
The rest of the teasers all relate to information DC has given us already (see the earlier link), although it does offer some interesting teases that perhaps change the way we looked at things, such as “Emperor Aquaman,” which one would have assumed is a positive thing as opposed to “The Terror Of.”
