Along with the slow roll out of their July solicitations today, they also released their September 2014 Solicitations for the “Futures End,” 5 year leap forward month, replete with lenticular covers and one-month only #1 relaunches for all 41 ongoing series.
Two things about this are surprising. First of all, “Booster Gold” is listed as an ongoing, listed right in between “Grayson” and “New Suicide Squad,” two July launches. Although part 1 of DC’s July solicits don’t mention “Booster Gold” as a new series, might part 2? Or perhaps is this an August launch? Either way, this is a very unusual way to announce a new series.
Similarly unusual is the fact that all 41 solicits are listed without creative teams attached. Now, presumably, DC will use September like they have the past two years, which is give some artists and/or entire creative teams the month off to recharge and get ahead on the other 11 issues throughout the year.
But what this could potentially mean is that this is a 100% editorially driven event. The creative teams would get absolutely no say as to what their issues are all about. Sure, they are still scripting/drawing them, but since the plot is locked in for all of these titles, they are, essentially, all plotted by DC editorial. If true, that is both surprising and disappointing.
Multiversity will have more coverage on this later this week.
