DC Reveals New Lantern Teams – And Book

May is going to bring about the end of the Green Lantern line as we know it, as every creative team that has been shepherding the Lantern books – particularly Johns, Tomasi and Bedard – leave for greener pastures. Yes, pun intended.

But what’s going to happen with all the books in their place? It’s not like DC would cancel such a profitable line or anything. And after some wild speculation, it looks like MTV Geek gets the exclusive reveal of all the new teams, which we present to you now unedited:

Green Lantern
The team of Robert Venditti and Billy Tan will pick from where Geoff Johns and Doug Mahnke left off on the GL flagship title.

Green Lantern Corps
Joshua Hale Fialkov and Bernard Chang are the new helmers on this comic.

Green Lantern: New Guardians
Up-and-coming writer Justin Jordan joins Brad Walker on this GL spinoff series.

Red Lanterns
Fialkov is seemingly all the rage, picking up this title as well as GLC duties; Alessandro Vitti provides art.

Larfleeze
Everybody’s favorite greedy Lantern gets the Keith Giffen treatment, with Scott Kolins on visuals.

So it’s certainly an interesting mix of new blood. This appears to be the book Vendetti gave up “Constantine” for, and Justin Jordan and Brad Walker on “New Guardians” (easily the most underrated Green Lantern book right now) is a great team. And Fialkov and Vitti? no question that that’s going to make for a great team, even if it is on a title that’s existence seemed a bit of a stretch to begin with. Who knew the Red Lanterns would be charismatic enough to pull off their own series in between vomiting blood on each other?

The real interesting thing here, though, is that Larfleeze is going to get his own title. This seems like the most obvious thing in retrospect, and it’s already seeing its origins on “Threshold,” in which Giffen and Kolins do the backup. If you’ve been reading that, chances are you’re going to want to read this. If you haven’t been reading that, this looks like DC attempting to make its own “Deadpool” type comic emphasizing humor, which Giffen and Kolins make a good match for.

So there’s your June Lantern line-ups. It’s either a great jumping on point, a great jumping off point, or a refreshing overhaul to one of your favorite lines. Whichever works!

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
