Via The Beat, DC Comics have announced a “Speed Force” series, written by Jarrett Williams with art by Daniele Di Nicuolo. The series will star Kid Flash (the younger Wallace R. “Ace” West), and the Flash of China (Avery Ho), after the pair relocate to Keystone City to investigate “mysterious changes happening to the Speed Force.” While there, they will “encounter old friends, new threats, and a chance to forge their own paths.”
The book marks Jarrett Williams’s DC debut; the cartoonist, 38, is best known for creating the manga-inspired wrestling series “Super Pro K.O.!” at Oni Press, as well as for work on licensed titles like “Rick and Morty,” “Adventure Time Comics,” “Invader Zim,” “Aggretsuko,” and “Dream Daddy.” Artist Di Nicuolo, who is best known for his work on BOOM! Studios’ Power Rangers comics, has previously contributed to DC’s “Knight Terrors: Nightwing” and “Superman: Son of Kal-El.”
It is also the first “solo” series for both Ace and Avery. Wallace was created by Van Jensen, Robert Venditti, Ron Frenz, and Brett Booth, and first appeared in 2014’s “The Flash Annual” #3. He was originally intended as the ‘New 52’ version of Wally West, something that bled over into the TV show’s version of the character, until the original returned, prompting DC to retcon him into his older namesake’s cousin. Avery was introduced by Joshua Williamson and Carmine Di Giandomenico in 2016’s “Flash” #3, and incidentally, was established as having unrequited feelings for Ace in 2021’s “DC Love Is a Battlefield” special.
Issue #1 will be released on November 14, shortly after Si Spurrier and Mike Deodato Jr.’s relaunch of the main “Flash” series on September 26. As well as the main cover by Di Nicuolo, it will have variant artwork by Leirix (open-to-order), and Deodato Jr. (1:25 incentive).
