DC Comics have announced three six-issue series under the banner of ‘We Are Legends’ as part of ‘Dawn of DC,’ all starring newly created Asian heroes: “Spirit World” by Alyssa Wong and Haining; “The Vigil” by Ram V and Lalit Kumar Sharma; and “City Boy” by Greg Pak, Minkyu Jung, and Sunny Gho. All three series will debut in May, during Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.

– “Spirit World,” by writer Alyssa Wong and artist Haining, stars Xanthe, a Chinese hero who can travel in and out of the Spirit World. The character was introduced in a story in this week’s “Lazarus Planet: Dark Fate” by the same creative team, and like Wong, is a non-binary person. The series will see them team up with John Constantine to rescue Batgirl/Cassandra Cain from jiangshi (Chinese hopping vampires). Issue #1 releases May 9.

– “The Vigil,” by Ram V and Lalit Kumar Sharma, continues the story of a group of heroes the pair introduced in this month’s “Lazarus Planet: Next Evolution.” The team consists of Arclight, Saya, Dodge, and Castle, “a group of individuals given powers they didn’t want, determined to stop metahuman research and tech created for military applications at any cost. Along the way, they’ll encounter super heroes that could be allies or enemies, not a surprise for a group that exists to shut down state-sponsored superhumans… and clean up the mess before any hero or villain arrives, as if both the crime and The Vigil were never there.” Issue #1 will bow on May 16.

– “City Boy,” by writer Greg Pak, artist Minkyu Jung, and colorist Sunny Gho, follows Korean superhero Cameron Kim, whom the creative team introduced in last year’s “Wildstorm 30th Anniversary Special.” Kim is a boy with the power to “speak” to cities, a power he uses to “find lost and hidden goods to pawn, just trying to get by. But having these powers also means that he hears everything about these cities, everywhere and all at once, including their histories and the truths behind them.” The series, which will take him to Metropolis, Amnesty Bay, Themyscira, and more, begins May 23.

Each first issue will have an AAPI Heritage Month variant cover, respectively created by Zu Orzu, Pop Mhan, and Alexandre Tefenkgi. Head on over to DC.com to check out the covers, character designs, interior pages, and more in the meantime.
