DC Comics have announced that writer and illustrator Kirk Scroggs’s next project will be a second middle-grade graphic novel called “We Found A Monster.” This announcement coincides with the release of Scroggs’s “The Secret Spiral of Swamp Kid.”

“We Found A Monster” will follow Kacie, whom Scroggs described to the Los Angeles Times as a “self-proclaimed outcast,” who is forced to go to summer school by her father. While there, she is partnered with her classmate Zandra, and together they find a monster washed up under the pier and in need of their help. When the pair take in the monster, Kacie begins to realize that Zandra may have encountered monsters before.

Scroggs teased that the monster Kacie and Zandra find will not be the only one, with many other DC Universe monsters set to make an appearance in the book. In addition to these, some of the monsters in the book will be based on folklore, such as the Japanese yokai. Like “The Secret Spiral of Swamp Kid,” Scroggs has chosen to present the graphic novel in a journal-like style to encourage readers to create their own comic books with whatever materials they have to hand.

“We Found A Monster” is scheduled for release in the fall of 2021, while “The Secret Spiral of Swamp Kid” is available now.
