DC called this a “spoiler” on their blog, but if you’re going to put an image on the cover of a book I don’t think it counts as a spoiler anymore – it just is.
Either way, the big news of DC’s day is: Sinestro is now, once again, a member of the Green Lantern Corps, joining Sector 2814 – aka our sector. While formerly the galaxy’s greatest, Sinestro fell once discovered to be a fear mongerer by Hal Jordan back in Emerald Dawn II (in previous continuity, anyway – who knows the story now?) and went on to become one of the greatest enemies of the Corps, forming his own (the Sinestro Corps, that narccisist!) and waging war on the galaxy.
But hey, it only takes one retcon punch to make everyone love you again! Or, in this case, a flash.
So the question is: despite DC’s blog describing him as “the newest member,” given that this is a Johns written title is DCnU’s Green Lantern #1 a) the history of the Green Lanterns within the new world, similar to Action Comics and Justice League (also penned by Johns), or b) the next part in Johns’ long run on the title? And why is he protecting our sector instead of Sector 1417, where Korugar is located? Given that the War of the Green Lanterns ends today (in stores now, as opposed to a few weeks ago), it’s possible that the big twist ending is that Sinestro re-joins the team – but I haven’t been to my shop, so I wouldn’t know!
Either way, look for more in September.
