DC’s New Angry Green Lantern Gets A Name

Don’t just call him “Hey, Green Lantern!” Earth’s new cosmic protector has an easier to say name than that.

As revealed on Diamond’s website, the solicit for “Green Lantern” #13 (part of the new “Rise of the Third Army” crossover) reveals the characters new name:

(W) Geoff Johns (A) Doug Mahnke, Mark Irwin (CA) Ivan Reis, Joe Prado

  • “Rise of the Third Army”!
  • Baz, Earth’s NEW Green Lantern, battles The Justice League!
  • Meanwhile, The Guardians begin their final step in the destruction of the Lanterns by releasing the first of the Third Army soldiers!

Personally, I’ve never heard of Baz being used as anything but a nickname, but a quick Google search reveals it to be a name of Galeic origin meaning “spear”, albeit still just a form of Barry. Then again, since DC is clearly going for the bad ass angle here, it’s easier to see why they’d think a name like Baz would be cooler than “Barry.” I mean, honestly, who can take a superhero seriously when they’re named Barry? Ha.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
