We’ve reported in the past that DC was launching a third weekly series come October, which would have something to do with its second weekly series, “The New 52: Futures End,” which starts on Free Comic Book Day.

Well, today, Nerdist exclusively revealed the official title of the new series: “Earth 2: World’s End.” Along with the above image, by the great Ben Oliver, DC announced the creative team on the book, which includes writers Daniel H. Wilson, Tom Taylor, Paul Levitz, Marguerite Bennet, and Mike Johnson and artists Eddy Barrows, Jorge Jimenez, Stephen Segovia, Paulo Siqeira, and Tyler Kirkham.

The article lists Wilson as the “showrunner of sorts” for the project, which is unusual, because his only comics credit, according to Comic Book DB, is a “Zombies vs. Robots” short. Wilson has written a number of sci-fi/robot themed prose books, and seems to be quite well regarded in that area. Here is what he has to say about the project:

This has been a charmed opportunity to jump straight into the deep end of a gritty, complex DC Comics series. I feel incredibly lucky to work with Mike Cotton and the rest of the legendary DC team, figuring out the ultimate fates (and sometimes origins) of so many compelling Earth 2 characters in crisis. I’m having the time of my life.

Also of note is the Oliver image. It presupposes a few things: first of all, the young Kryptonian introduced early in Tom Taylor’s run, apparently, grows up to be (a) Superman, Huntress and Power Girl get back home to Earth 2, and Batman, although quite old by Superhero standards, still survives. The question of whether or not this is “5 years in the future” for Earth 2, as it is in “Futures End,” hasn’t really been answered either.

One final bit of speculation: the Oliver art piece’s title, as uploaded to the Nerdist server, is “apokolipsnew11” – could this series have more to do with Darkseid and Apokolips than is potentially teased?

Stay tune for more information as it becomes available.
