As seems to be the case with Marvel NOW! come April, “Deadpool” will also see a bit of a change thanks to a teaser posted on Comics Alliance.
In a teaser image featuring the art of Art Adams, we get Deadpool looking up at an ice cream truck about to topple on his head and the name Mike Hawthorne where Tony Moore’s name once was. So it’s perhaps a safe assumption that Hawthorne will be taking over for Moore on art duties (like he did in “Fear Agent”) and Art Adams will be doing covers instead of Geof Darrow.
While these creative changes are interesting, one can’t help but note that part of Marvel NOW!’s initial mission statement was to avoid creative team changes. Yet, with every teaser we’ve gotten this week (outside of the Wood/Coipel “XX” book), a new artist joins the same writer on a title. As good as Hawthorne really is, it’s odd to see Tony Moore not doing the book so early on into the game.
This is, of course, assuming that these teasers don’t merely represent a temporary change, operating like “Superior Spider-Man” that has a team of multiple artists for different arcs. Who knows?
We’ll assumedly find out more next week. Look for the issue in April.
