In last night’s Emmy Awards (I didn’t even know they were on), there was a surprising winner amongst the stars: cartoonist Dean Haspiel. Having helped design the credits for HBO’s Bored to Death (with co-winners Tom Barham, Marci Ichimura and Anthony Santoro), Haspiel took the prize for Outstanding Main Title Design for the show.

How’d he get the job? Haspiel illustrated Vertigo’s The Alcoholic by writer Jonathan Ames. The same Jonathan Ames that Bored to Death is written and created by, as well as the same Ames that sort of stars in the show (Jason Schwartzman plays him).

Congrats to Dean, one of the seemingly nicer and more talented people in the industry.
