Deathstroke Returns to the Spotlight in New Tony Daniel Ongoing

Thanks to CW’s television program Arrow, Slade Wilson’s profile has never been higher. Deathstroke, played by Manu Bennett, took on the spotlight as the Big Bad of Season 2, harassing and hunting Ollie in the background of the series until their battle came to a head in a “No Man’s Land”-esque finale. That, and his role in Batman: Arkham Origins certainly helps spread him out nicely to non-comic readers.

Well, it seems that DC is excited to acknowledge his new spotlight, and despite launching the New 52 with a “Deathstroke” series that was in one of the first few waves of cancellations, it was announced this morning at MTV that DC will be revisiting the idea of a “Deathstroke” series in the New 52 this October. Written and illustrated by Tony Daniel, who launched DC’s New 52 iteration of “Detective Comics,” the series will pick up with Wilson after the events of “Forever Evil,” where he’s an assassin that doesn’t fit in. He’ll be clashing with some villains described as “clearly evil bastards,” and the first arc will see Deathstroke being hunted by someone else.

Daniel will be joined by Sandu Florea as co-artist of the series, though it is unclear at that time what that means — whether Florea will illustrate some issues or if Daniel and Florea will both illustrate the series (“Batwoman,” for example, featured an announced rotating art team doing different portions of the book).

“Deathstroke” launches in October.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
