Marvel Comics have announced writer/artist Peach Momoko will craft a four-issue follow-up to her series “Demon Days,” titled “Demon Wars: The Iron Samurai.” Co-scripted by manga translator Zack Davisson, the series will reimagine the events of ‘Civil War’ within the context of Momoko’s Japanese folklore-inspired Momoko-verse.
The synopsis promises, “sentient samurai armor, a winged individual in a falcon mask, a mysterious panther person and a red, snakelike monster with a deadly appetite. When Mariko Yashida finds herself in the middle of a war between these creatures, will she be forced to choose a side?” The first issue will be released on July 13, and you can check out more from Momoko (including a variant cover) here.
In other Marvel news yesterday, the publisher revealed next month’s “Free Comic Book Day: Avengers/X-Men” will introduce Brielle, aka Bloodline, the daughter of Blade, and his original love interest, the dancer Safron Caulder. Bloodline (created by Danny Lore and Karen S. Darboe) was preceded by the character of Fallon Grey, who was going to be introduced in Tim Seeley and Logan Faerber’s 2015 series “Blade the Hunter,” until that book ultimately went unpublished after Seeley accepted criticism that he was a white man writing a comic with Black leads. “Free Comic Book Day: Avengers/X-Men” #1 will be released on May 7.
Finally, Marvel announced July’s “X-Men Legends” #3 will see Ann Nocenti return for a Longshot story, set after 1985’s eponymous miniseries, where she and Arthur Adams introduced the hero of Mojoworld. The new, two-part story, featuring art by Javier Pina, will see Wolverine, Shadowcat and Lockheed getting pulled into the Mojoverse with Longshot after his first adventure, and being forced to make a movie by Mojo. It will be released on July 27.
