Word on the street is that career asshole and Rescue Me star Dennis Leary is in final talks to portray Captain George Stacy, father of Gwen Stacy, in the upcoming Spider-Man film reboot. Once he dots his I’s and crosses his T’s on this one, he’ll join the (rumored) Sally Field and (confirmed) Martin Sheen on the already impressive adult half of the cast. Despite having one of the most recognizable Boston accents in the industry, Leary sure gave us a convincing New York Firefighter performance in Rescue Me, so the jump to the fictional NYPD shouldn’t be much of a stretch. On top of that, his work on the Ice Age franchise proves that he can do “family friendly” fairly well. Frankly, a slightly more gruff and foul mouthed Captain Stacy could turn out to be a great fit!
