Just in time for a Batman filled weekend from us (keep your eyes open for it), DC has put out the Batman solicits for June. There are some cool returning books in them (for those that remember the Joker’s Asylum one-shots), but the one that caught my eye was Detective Comics #866, written by Dennis O’Neil with art by Dustin Nguyen. For those that recognize the name, Dennis O’Neil is one of biggest influences on the modern day Batman, especially in the looks category. While some may consider his work a hit or miss deal, most Batfans should recognize O’Neil as a big name, and having him return for this “anniversary” is really cool.

Take a look at the solicit:

DETECTIVE COMICS #866
On sale JUNE 23 – 40 pg, FC, $3.99 US
Written by DENNIS O’NEIL
Art and cover by DUSTIN NGUYEN
1:25 “DC 75 Anniversary” Variant cover by WALTER SIMONSON
Continuing the spirit of celebration from BATMAN #700, comics legend Dennis O’Neil’s returns to the Batcave in this stand-alone, 40-page issue! O’Neil spins a tale of the Dick Grayson Batman intertwined with those classic days when Batman and Robin, the Boy Wonder, patrolled the mean streets of Gotham City!
And come back next month for the return of The Question and Batwoman!

Detective Comics is my favorite Batman book because it features great writer/artist teams and it always features good stories. It’s odd because I keep trying to drop the book because I don’t want to be buying too many Bat-books, but in the end I always end up grabbing this over the others (aside from Batman and Robin). I will definitely be grabbing this issue, though. I’d love to see Dennis O’Neil tackle Dick as Batman now. It’ll be very interesting to see what he does with the character.

Anyone else excited for this? Sound off in the comments.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
