DC Comics have announced September’s “Detective Comics” #1027 will be an oversized anniversary issue, consisting of multiple stories by different creative teams, to celebrate a thousand issues since Batman’s first appearance in “Detective Comics” #27 (March 1939).

The stories in the 144-page comic will have the following writers and artists:

– Greg Rucka and Eduardo Risso
– Grant Morrison and Chris Burnham
– Tom King and Walt Simonson
– James Tynion IV and Riley Rossmo
– Peter J. Tomasi and Brad Walker
– Dan Jurgens
– Marv Wolfman, Emanuela Lupacchino and Bill Sienkiewicz
– Brian Michael Bendis and David Marquez
– Mariko Tamaki and Dan Mora
– Scott Snyder and Ivan Reis
– Kelly Sue DeConnick, John Romita Jr. and Klaus Janson
– Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky

The book will also “tribute” art from artists like José Luis García-López, Jamal Campbell, Lee Bermejo and Jorge Jiménez. The variant covers will spotlight friends and foes of Batman (as opposed to the ones for last year’s 80th anniversary special “Detective” #1000, which celebrated Batman through the decades), and there will be retailer exclusive covers too.

Ben Abernathy, Group Editor of the Batman titles, said “‘Detective’ #1027 has been a massive undertaking, and I’m really excited for fans to see what editors Paul Kaminski and Dave Wielgosz have in store come September. A great combination of writers and artists are putting in their best work on the book and fans should pay close attention to these stories, since some of them will plant the seeds for both Batman’s future and that of the DC universe.”

“Detective Comics” #1027 will be released Tuesday, September 15, 2020, and will retail for $9.99.
