Detroit Steel Takes on Fraction’s "Invincible Iron Man"

As revealed in last night’s Fresh Ink segment by Blair Butler on G4’s Attack of the Show (see below for that video), Tony Stark will be facing off against a new old villain: Hammer Industries. Now run by Justin Hammer’s daughter Justine Hammer, they’ve taken the idea of Iron Man and privatized it. Their Detroit Steel suit is, according to series writer Matt Fraction, “a sort of Blackwater-meets-NASCAR corporate-sponsored armored enhanced guy available for hire to the highest bidder for whatever cause around the round.”

What this means for the Marvel Universe’s Tony Stark is uncertain, but I’m always down for Matt Fraction’s take on variations of the Tony Stark formula in this book (see: Ezekiel Stane). Plus, any excuse for Salvador Larocca to draw more awesome battle suits is fine by me. It also works perfectly considering Hammer Industries is a very important figure in Marvel’s upcoming Iron Man 2 film, although I’m sure Fraction can handle turning it into something that is more than a film tie-in.

Check out all of Marvel’s interview with Matt Fraction here for more on this upcoming story.
