Dark Horse Comics have announced “Creeping,” a horror graphic novel by writer Zack Keller (“Cuphead”) and artist Doug Wheatley (George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood). Based on an original story by Dark Horse publisher Mike Richardson, the book depicts a social media trend called “creeping,” which encourages participants to spend the night at frightening locations, from cemeteries, to derelict morgues. One group of thrill seekers decides to spend a night at an abandoned medieval fortress-turned-asylum, but “they soon realize they are in for more than they bargained for.”

Richardson said in the press release, “I caught the end of a news clip about college kids staying overnight in an abandoned house and that got me thinking about a new story — a fad in which people sought out the scariest places to camp while live-streaming themselves. The fad, ‘creeping,’ turns into a competition as each group seeks to outdo the last. What could be more frightening than an abandoned asylum avoided by locals for 100 years? Of course, this location has a secret…”

He pitched the idea to Keller after he’d written the 2015-16 Dark Horse horror series “Death Head” (which Keller penned with his brother Nick.) “Doug Wheatley’s interest in illustrating was a big plus for bringing the story to life, and I’m so glad fans will see the horrors the team created,” he said.

“Creeping” will be released in comic book stores on October 13, and in bookstores on October 26, 2021.
