Via Screen Rant, Dark Horse Comics have announced “Stranger Things: The Many Ghosts of Dr. Brenner,” a four-issue series exploring the ruthless scientist’s past. Created by writer Brenden Fletcher (“Isola”) and artist Mack Chater (“Sword Daughter”) with colorist Rosh and letterer Nate Piekos, the book will take readers back to 1968, when a disgraced Martin Brenner “returns to the abandoned lab where he and his colleagues collected research for top-secret government projects. But Brenner’s unfinished business in his old lab isn’t the only thing haunting him: a ghostly face from his past seems to be following his every step.”

“The Many Ghosts of Dr. Brenner” #1 will be released on January 11, 2023. The first issue will have a standard cover by Marc Aspinall, as well as variants by series poster artist Kyle Lambert, Diego Galindo, and Malachi Ward. No quotes were provided from the creators in the announcement, but the comic marks the first “Stranger Things” book, and the first Dark Horse project from Fletcher, while Chater previously provided a variant cover for last year’s “Stranger Things: The Tomb of Ybwen” #4.

Now, spoilers for those who haven’t seen it, but the book’s announcement comes a few months after the fourth season of Stranger Things concluded Dr. Brenner’s story in definitive fashion, while revealing considerably more of his past from 1959 to 1979. It is unknown if there will be an appearance from Henry Creel, Brenner’s first MKUltra test subject (who would be 21 in 1968), with Ward’s cover indicating another boy is haunting the scientist at Hawkins National Laboratory.
