Via IGN, Image Comics have announced a new seven-part miniseries called “Do a Powerbomb!,” which will reunite writer/artist Daniel Warren Johnson, colorist Mike Spicer, and letterer Rus Wooton. Johnson and Spicer most recently worked together on “Beta Ray Bill” with letterer Joe Sabino, but the credits for the reuniting trio include “Wonder Woman: Dead Earth” and “Murder Falcon.”
“Do a Powerbomb!” will follow Lona Steelrose, a wrestler trying to establish herself outside of her mother’s legacy, which looms large over the ring. Steelrose is offered the opportunity to do so when she is invited by a necromancer to take part in a huge wrestling tournament; there, “the competitors get more than they ever bargained for.”
Speaking to IGN, Johnson stated, “Ever since I started writing and drawing comics, I’ve wanted to make stories that get me EXCITED. I mean, like, REALLY PUMPED UP.” With the “Powerbomb” mini-series, “I’ve tried to channel my passion and love for pro-wrestling into a 2D space, to try and share it with my readers as best I can, and maybe get them excited about it too.”
“Do a Powerbomb!” #1 is scheduled for release on June 15, with a primary cover by Johnson and a variant by James Harren. You can check out a host of preview pages here, with a trailer for the miniseries is available here.
