In news broken by AICN, there is a new attempt to bring the 30’s pulp hero Doc Savage onto the big screen sometime in the near future. For those of you not famililar with the character, he was a character who pre-dates even Superman in the funnypages. Click for more

The duo behind a lot of hits in the past decade, from Alias, Mission Impossible III, Fringe, and Star Trek with J.J. Abrams to Transformers and even The Proposal, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci have Hollywood on lock. And now that they’re Executive Producing this movie, I can really see this getting fast tracked. They even tapped the excellent screenwriter Shane Black (The Lethal Weapon series, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) to pen the script.

I’m particularly excited because I happen to enjoy their movies (for the most part), and anyone who knows me knows Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is my favorite movie ever. They’ve even decided to keep it a period piece in the 30’s instead of updating it and losing all the magic. This is incredible news. The only thing that would make me happier is Val Kilmer in a supporting role. Anyone who’s seen KKBB knows exactly why. He has just the right amount of talent to accompany Black’s signature snark.

UPDATE: Contrary to what was previously reported, Orci and Kurtzman are not involved in the project in any way. But Shane Black is still writing the script.

Gilbert Short

Gilbert Short. The Man. The Myth. The Legend. When he's not reading comic books so you don't have to, he's likely listening to mediocre music or watching excellent television. Passionate about Giants baseball and 49ers football. When he was a kid he wanted to be The Ultimate Warrior. He still kind of does. His favorite character is Superman and he will argue with you about it if you try to convince him otherwise. He also happens to be the head of Social Media Relations, which means you should totally give him a follow onTwitter.
