In the video, Jones ponders his next project and, after considering a film based on a Marvel, DC, or Image comic (including “Shirtless Bear-Fighter“), he settles on returning “home” to adapt a comic from the British-based publisher Rebellion’s “2000 AD.” He takes off his cap, revealing a blue mohawk, heavily indicating his next project will star Rogue Trooper.
Created by Gerry Finley-Day and Dave Gibbons for 1981’s “2000 AD” #228, Rogue Trooper (first name literally Rogue) is a genetically engineered, blue-skinned supersoldier from Nu-Earth, a planet at war between the Norts and Southers. Rogue is a Genetic Infantryman who is bred by the Southern High Command to fight in the planet’s poisonous atmosphere. Following a failed surprise attack-turned-massacre, Rogue goes on the hunt for the Traitor General who leaked details of the operation. Rogue is aided by three AIs based on deceased soldiers: Gunnar (mounted on his rifle), Bagman (on his backpack) and Helm (on his helmet).
A screenplay for a movie version of Rogue Trooper was written by Grant Morrison for Sam Worthington (Avatar)’s production company Full Clip back in 2011, but the project became dormant. The projected release date of Jones’s film project is currently unknown: the director’s last movie, Mute, was released on Netflix earlier this year.
