Launching in February 2019, “Dungeons & Dragons: A Darkened Wish” will return adventurers to one of D&D’s most popular settings: the Forgotten Realms.

The five-issue IDW miniseries will be written by streamer, storyteller, and motivational speaker B. Dave Walters (who plays Harmatio in the Inkwell Society) and illustrated by Tess Fowler (“Rat Queens,” “Kid Lobotomy”). In The Hollywood Reporter article announcing the series, both creators shared their love for the long-lasting roleplaying franchise:

“I’ve been adventuring in the Forgotten Realms for a long time, and having the honor of contributing to that world is incredibly exciting,” said Walters. “I can’t wait to show fans the power and intensity of a truly epic D&D story!”

“I have dreamed of making Dungeons & Dragons comics since I was twelve years old,” said Fowler, “but ‘A Darkened Wish’ is beyond anything I could have hoped for.”

“A Darkened Wish” will follow a young wizard named Helene as she and a group of friends (pictured on the series’s first cover) deal with the fallout of renewed war within the Forgotten Realms – a setting that includes notable D&D locales such as Waterdeep, Neverwinter, and Baldur’s Gate. Helene’s party will journey from the island of Mintarn to pursue “unimagined adventures,” and will likely run into some legendary heroes of yore along the way.
