Eagle Awards Initiative Announced

The Eagle Awards are some of the most prominent awards in all of comics, only earning the highest tier of creators their prizes and doing a great job of spotlighting some books that deserve more recognition. In that vein, their announcement today that they’ve launched a new initiative to find new, original voices in comics is really not that surprising.

It seems they’ve launched the Eagle Awards Initiative, a campaign designed to get unpublished creators to submit original work to be judged and potentially published in an anthology collection that will be both printed and posted online. There will be cash prizes as well, but perhaps the most exciting aspect of this campaign is who the judges will be.

From Bleeding Cool, the judges include Peter Bagge, Karen Berger, Tom Breevort, Chris Claremont, David Finch, Dave Gibbons, Geoff Johns, Gilbert Shelton, Jeff Smith, Bryan Talbot, Ethan Van Sciver, Mark Waid and Brian Wood.

How crazy is that? That’s a murderers row of editorial and creative talent, a collection of mega talents from all walks of comic book life. It’s impressive to say the least, and to have your work analyzed by one of them is likely a prize in of itself for your average creator.

This initiative fully launches in July, and if you’re interested in participating or learning more you can check out their website.
