ECCC ’12: iZombie To End In August

As reported from the Vertigo panel at ECCC, it looks like Chris Roberson and Mike Allred’s “iZombie” will be ending in August with issue #28. Allred noted on the panel that a “massive galactic event” will occur to end the book, and while Vertigo has had a few cancellations in its stoic past (such as with “Northlanders”, which broke our hearts), there was/is no mention of the book ending prematurely.

The book has appeared to be gearing towards a finale in recent issues with the revelation of Xitalu, an ancient evil god who wanted to destroy the Earth. Various threads of the book have begun pooling together assumedly towards a cataclysm (in fact to a very noticeable extent in this month’s #23), so the book coming to an end is not a huge shock.

What is noteworthy here, however, is that “iZombie” is another of Veritgo’s long-running titles to be coming to an end this year, with “Scalped” and “Northlanders” ending soon as well as “Sweet Tooth.” Outside of “American Vampire,” “The Unwritten” (with Carey and Ross stating they’ve reached the halfway point with #35) and the two perhaps never-ending titles “Hellblazer” and “Fables”, it does seem that the current era of Vertigo is ending as a new one begins with “Saucer Country” and “Dominique Laveau” (not counting the current minis). It’ll be interesting to see what comes from the future of Vertigo.

Regardless, we’re sad to see “iZombie” go, but are looking forward to seeing how Roberson and Allred wrap things up either way.

Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
