It had been rumored for a long time and was something we had openly speculated on, but reports coming out of ECCC seem to confirm that the information is true: “Avengers vs. X-Men” will in fact end up in a reboot similar to DC’s New 52.

Citing DC’s boost in sales and general malaise towards straining talent with double shipping, it was apparently revealed that Marvel will be exploiting what is known as “the Scarlet Witch loophole” to do a twist on the famous “No more mutants” retcon that affected the X-Men back in “House of M.” Not too much was revealed yet, but it was alluded that the Phoenix and the concepts of “death” and “rebirth” would be involved, and “nothing would ever be the same again.”
Not too much was revealed about what changes are coming, but it was confirmed that Brian Bendis would be moving on to write both “the Uncanny X-Men” and the newly titled “Wolverine’s Kids Club”, and other architects Ed Brubaker, Matt Fraction, Jonathan Hickman and Jason Aaron would be moving on to titles like “Captain America: The Wonder Years”, “Thor and Loki: Brothers Supreme,” “the Fantastic Foundation” and “Marvel Presents: Bearded Warriors.” There will also be a heavier emphasis on keeping titles All-Ages by writers like Jeff Parker and Dan Slott with books like “Spidey-Man”, “Hulk and Friends” and a new take on Daredevil where he takes xanax and hangs out with his father.
Fans were apparently confused as to why Marvel would reveal this decision so early on when the finale of “AvX” is closer to September, but the sentiment was that Marvel is so excited about the transition that they wanted to tease fans about it now while they had the opportunity.
It is also apparently possible that a Marvel and DC crossover is in the works, but there are is no further information about that available.
More information is sure to be released about titles and creative teams in the upcoming months, but we’ll let you know more about the decision as we hear it.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
