ECCC is now past us, and those of you who didn’t go are probably wondering: what happened? What news do we get out of it? Well, for your convenience, I’ve begun swooping around the internet, getting bits and pieces of what I can in order to share with you from all the various news outlets around the internet.
Our very own Brandon and David are returning from ECCC as we speak with a whole bucket of goodies, so be on the lookout through the rest of the week for various ECCC exclusives to just us at MC, including one that may both frighten and confuse me (if what they’re telling me in these e-mails is true).
So first, let’s take a look at Marvel:
- Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson aren’t getting back together any time soon, no matter what fanboy endeavor you’re willing to take upon yourself. (Just as a note, this does seem a tad bit against the teaser that was put out from Marvel at the beginning of the year featuring Parker and Watson grabbing towards each other (with her in a wedding gown), but you never know with Marvel).
- Expect something from Dan Slott that is not Spider-Man now that Mighty Avengers is over.
- Matt Fraction’s Thor will be “spacey, big, and Jewish.” In less broad terms, it will deal heavily with what Kirby and Lee did on the title, featuring the Eternals and Galactus.
- The first Avengers arc by Bendis will deal with Kang breaking the space-time continuum, which will result in an epic crossover between Avengers of Earth-616 and various other universes, including the Next Avengers in there first ever comic appearance.
- In Ultimate Comics Spider-Man, the government will be coming to take Kitty away, and the Chameleon will be a villain.
- Expect to see the Young Avengers, the Loners, and the New Warriors soon.
- Marvel is planning to do a big push into the digital arena soon, especially via iPhones (or, according to Matt Fraction: the newsstand in your pants to which everyone is invited).
- Within the next two months, Marvel will explain what it plans to do with Marvelman. This may include “old stories, new stories, or reprints,” as well as an interview with the original Marvelman creator, Mick Anglo.
- Issue #7 will unfortunately be the last issue of Spider-Woman, due to Alex Maleev needing a break. However, Bendis and Maleev will be working on a book together for the Icon imprint of Marvel.
- The Scarlet Witch is definitely returning. In what capacity, we do not yet know, but it is described as “a cool project coming by people you’ll want to read.” Hey, has anyone seen the first issue of Secret Avengers anywhere?
- Deadpool is definitely not leaving. “People vote with their dollars and feet,” Quesada said, so if you want to see Deadpool go away, stop buying it. Otherwise, prepare for a fifth on-going.
- Look for a new Avengers cartoon soon to air on Disney XD.
That about wraps it up for Marvel! However, there is one last thing of note:
Those who attened the Kirby Krackle show at ECCC may have received a pick with O.M.I.T. written on one side and Marvel on the other. Any guesses as to what this may mean?
