ECCC News Round-Up

Emerald City Comic Con is not a big convention for news. Not really, anyway. From the view of an ouster who has never been, the main “point” of the comic is rather a place for fans and creators to connect on various levels, to discuss what’s currently coming out and what is about to, and to generally have a good time. Heck, MC is actually at the convention, but apparently our reporters are having such a damn good time they can’t even report in to tell us what they’re doing outside of something involving paint. Huh.

Despite that though, there is some news that has leaked it’s way out of the convention. An since none of it is really that grandiose as to stand on it’s own (ostensibly, anyway), we’ve done our best to scour the various corners of the internet and create a nice round-up of soundbites that you might like to know.

So without further ado,

Marvel news

  • The Doctor Strange mini by Waid might be connected to Fear Itself
  • Captain America will be 30 page stories for $3.99 starting next month.
  • Criminal: The Last of the Innocents – in progress now!
  • Agents of Atlas will return in Fear Itself: The Home Front
  • Fear Itself: “The Red Skull discovers that Odin isn’t the All-Father.”

  • David LaFuente is working on something new and “mutanty”
  • All the X-Men books are moving towards “something” that will become clear by 2012
  • As far as Iron Fist is concerned, “Read Fear Itself #4 and stay tuned”
  • There are “plans” for the Runaways – when this will happen or what they are, no one is saying… but according to Bendis during the Architects panel, they are there
  • Here’s a direct quote from Brian Bendis that got no further explanation: “In Avengers #12.1 drawn by Bryan Hitch — it’s almost double-sized for $2.99 coming out in April… Space Knight.”
  • Nick Spencer is now a Marvel Exclusive writer, and while reports right now seem a bit confuddled, it seems that his previous work for other publishers (i.e. Image/DC) will continue as planned (and might we add a resounding and hearty congrats to Nick on the news!)
  • Garth Ennis may or may not be working on something for Marvel?

DC (and Vertigo) news

  • Sean Murphy will have a new booking coming out that was originally rejected

Dark Horse news

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
