We did more of a full news round-up earlier (which included this bit of news), but as more information comes out it felt necessary to give this it’s own post – that and to continue to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Nick.

So yes, Nick is now a Marvel Exclusive! Hurrah! He has literally had one Marvel comic come out so far, but Marvel loves his work so much that they’ve already gone and snatched him up before anybody else can. It’s pretty astounding for such a new creator to get this kind of treatment, but it only goes to show that it’s good to be Spencer right now.

But what of his other work? Spencer has an ongoing

at Image as well as one mini and an upcoming series, plus an ongoing at DC. With a Marvel Exclusive, are those things in trouble? Well, to answer that question, we have a quote from Nick himself (via his twitter feed):

All right, so, today’s big news, in case you haven’t seen it yet: proud and happy to say I’ve signed an exclusive at Marvel! Wanna get the first big thing out of the way- this does NOT affect my creator-owned work, or even my work on T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents. My deal also leaves me plenty of room to do more creator-owned work in the future, too. This wasn’t about cutting that stuff off, this was about getting to part of a team, and cheesy as it may sound, a family. I wanted this deal because it’s a chance to work in the same room as a lot of the writers I respect and admire the most-guys like Jonathan Hickman, Brian Bendis, Ed Brubaker, Kieron Gillen, etc. Can’t wait to tell great stories together with those guys. And really big thanks to C.B. Cebulski and everyone at Marvel for making this happen. Dream come true.

There you have it. All your favorite books are safe, and the writing machine that is Nick Spencer is going to plug away at all of it.

So congrats Nick, and let’s hope that his brain doesn’t OD from writing Iron Man 2.0, Secret Avengers, Thief of Thieves, the Infinite Vacation, Morning Glories, T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents, possibly maybe the lost/rumored 5th issue of Shuddertown, and… well, anything else he has coming down the pipeline (and I believe it’s safe to say there are probably a few things).

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
