On Twitter today, Ed Brubaker took a moment to tease the importance of his upcoming Fear Itself tie-in, Fear Itself #7.1 – Captain America. Acting as the epilogue to the event, the book focuses on Captain America as he, under Brubaker’s pen, mourns the loss of Bucky.
Brubaker wrote,
I cannot emphasize enough the importance of what is now called FEAR ITSELF 7.1 – CAPTAIN AMERICA to my longtime Cap readers. Not only is it some of Butch’s finest artwork, but it sets up my next year of Marvel work on Cap and a secret book yet to be announced. Retailers will be wishing they had more stock in this issue come January, with the new secret #1 that’s debuting.
He also added in reply to another user, “All I’m saying is, if you’re one of my longtime Cap readers, the Fear Itself 7.1 issue will be a big thing.”
Feel free to speculate on what the book is starting now. Brubaker has been teasing a lot of big things to come in his long Captain America run, not the least of which was Cap’s dream at the end of Rebirth which still stands unresolved today (and featured Bucky, no less). There’s also the issue of unresolved plot lines from Secret Avengers that we can assume Warren Ellis isn’t going to touch on, and which Brubaker had mentioned he would return to if no one else did.
