We heard about this a little while ago, but today brings the official release of the first episode of a new collaboration between film writer and director Edgar Wright (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Shaun of the Dead) and artist Tommy Lee Edwards (Turf), titled “Brandon Generator.” This effort is an “interactive animated graphic novel,” with a full credit list that includes:

– Written by Edgar Wright (Scott Pilgrim vs The World, Shaun of the Dead)
– Storyboarded, designed, illustrated, and directed by Tommy Lee Edwards (Turf, Star Wars)
– Animated by Scott Benson & Tommy Lee Edwards
– CG modeling by Don Cameron, Daryl Bartley, & Rodolfo Damaggio
– Music by David Holmes (Ocean’s 11, Haywire)
– Narrated by Julian Barratt (the Mighty Boosh)

Quite the bevy of creators, that is. And, after watching the first episode myself and playing around with the interactive aspects, it’s easy to say that this is quite the worthwhile project. In fact, I loved it, with Barratt’s vocals looming overhead the quirky and imaginative story from Wright. Edwards brings his standard, stellar efforts to the table, adding a ton of personality to the world of writer Brandon, and the rest of the visual team makes the motion aspects of the comic work quite well without feeling gimmicky. Not to be left behind, Holmes’ music seems to escape the Soderbergh-ian niche he existed in before, adding quite the spellbinding backbone to this whole production.

In short, it’s phenomenal, and I’m already eagerly anticipating the next episode. Get on it, MC readers. This is great stuff.
