Electron Boy Saves the Day!

Last week on Twitter, a story started passing back and forth amongst comic creators. I came across it when I saw G. Willow Wilson (Vertigo’s Air) tweeting about it, and as many creators said, it really justifies everything about the industry and the magic of the medium of comics.

Erik Martin, a 13 year old boy from Washington, had been living with liver cancer for a while. His dream had always been to be a superhero named “Electron Boy” and to save the day from criminals. Last week, thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and a whole slew of other people, he was given that opportunity.

What went on from there was one of the most life affirming stories I’ve ever heard, as Electron Boy went across the city of Seattle, saving the Seattle Sounders football club, getting cheered on by hoards of people, and getting a police escort along the way. He even took down his arch nemesis, Dr. Dark and his sidekick Blackout Boy!

Check out the full article here – it’s an incredible story that really proves the magic of what we all love so much. Warning though: Sterling Gates did say it made things a little dusty in the Gates Mansion. It’s an emotional journey, for sure.
