A much anticipated release from comic fans everyone, Warren Ellis and Matt “D’Israeli” Booker’s experimental comic is now available for purchase from BERG.
So what makes this new comic so special (besides the fact that it’s Ellis and D’Israeli, of course)? SVK the comic is an experimental graphic novella that uses the form of print publication to visualize a new way to read comics. It’s printed on 115gsm silk screen paper with a special coating of invisible ink that is only available using an ultra violet light, the result of which changes the story as certain character’s previously unseen thoughts suddenly become apparent, changing both the story and how you view it (see above and below for a sample image). It’s certainly an intriguing and interesting way to display a comic book story, and leave it to Ellis to release a comic like this (and then describe it as “Franz Kafka’s Bourne Identity”).
For those of you living across the pond, you get to pay a simple £10.00 + £3 shipping; however, for the rest of us £9.95 shipping – making the grand US total $32.16. That covers the cost of both the comic (pre-bagged for you) and a special SVK UV device to read the enhanced form of the comic. It’s a bit steep for the US folk, but if you can afford it it is assuredly worth the purchase. For more information, visit the main site here.
