Ellis and Lotay to Re-Introduce Supreme with “Blue Rose”

It looks like “Trees” is not the only outing for Warren Ellis at Image, as he’ll be taking on a brand new and arguably more difficult project: a revamp of Rob Liefeld’s character “Supreme,” as made famous by Alan Moore’s incredible run.

Written by Warren Ellis and illustrated by Tula Lotay, very little is said about the new series other than that Ellis apparently just woke up with the idea, pitched to Image and Image said yes. Image had “Supreme” as part of their Extreme Studios relaunch, though it did not fair as well as a book like “Prophet” did, so it’ll be interesting to see what Ellis and Lotay bring to the series in terms of a new start in 2014.

Tula Lotay on art is a pretty exciting aspect, though. Lotay is most known for running the UK’s convention Thought Bubble, but she’s a remarkably talented artist. You can see a previous collaboration she did with Ellis here, and that alone should be enough to excite and entice for their extended collaboration here.

Either way, for fans of the character and certainly for fans of the new heights that Moore took him to, it should be worth a look. For the full press release from Image Comics, please see below.

Warren Ellis (TREES, Planetary) teams up with Tula Lotay (ELEPHANTMEN, The Witching Hour) to re-introduce the central Image Comics character in SUPREME: BLUE ROSE, coming this July from Image Comics.

“One day I woke up with an idea, that came out of nowhere, for how to extend this most strange and storied of ‘analogue’ properties into a new space. A new floor on top of Alan Moore and Rob Liefeld’s house,” said Ellis. “And, since I had some time on my hands that year, I emailed Image, and we got my friend Tula Lotay involved—and her work will be a revelation to people.”

SUPREME: BLUE ROSE #1 arrives in stores on 7/23, and will be available for $2.99. It can be pre-ordered with Diamond Code MAY140571.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
