Ellis and Shalvey Officially Off “Moon Knight” as New Team is Announced

We reported the run as ending, and many commenters didn’t believe us. Other sites didn’t even report it as official news, since the solicit was so dubious. But today, it is official: “Moon Knight” by Ellis and Shalvey is over.

Yet, the book will continue come september with a new creative team: writer Brian Wood and artist (and diminutive clone at one-eighth the size) Greg Smallwood, as announced at Newsarama. Jordie Bellaire will remain on the book, assumedly to the joy of many, and it appears Declan Shalvey will still do covers (at least for issue #7, above). The book will keep the one-shot structure as Wood notes he wants to continue doing what Ellis did on the series before him, and September’s #7 will take place during a New York blackout.

Smallwood is a great pick for the book, even if the name thing is amazingly/coincidentally humorous. If you’ve not read “Dream Thief” yet, it’s highly recommended; Smallwood’s work is dynamic and inventive, and he’s a pretty great follow-up to Shalvey. The book will assumedly be a large departure from that which came before, even if stylistically it attempts to keep a similar format, but if nothing else I imagine that it will continue to look quite great — especially with Bellaire staying on the book.

“Moon Knight” Season 2 (as it is apparently being dubbed) launches in September with issue #7. Let us know what you think of the new creative team in the comments below.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
