Emma Stone and Dianna Agron to Simultaneously Love Andrew Garfield?

What a suggestively inappropriate title. Hmm.

Well, it was reported over the weekend at Deadline Hollywood that Emma Stone had been offered the role of Mary Jane for Marc Webb’s Spider-Man reboot. This is in addition to Deadline’s report that Glee’s Dianna Agron could play Gwen Stacy. Apparently the idea is to have Gwen Stacy be his (Andrew Garfield) love interest for the first film and his relationship with Mary Jane will evolve over the course of sequels.

This is … interesting. Better than Kirsten Dunst and Bryce Dallas Howard of course, but interesting none the less. Agron I am totally sold on, especially after Glee, because she is one of the best parts of the show (and most underused since the second half of season one). Emma Stone? Like her in Zombieland and Superbad, sure, but I’m not jumping through the roof for the Mary Jane casting. But hey, Marc Webb can get what Marc Webb wants if he makes Spidey half as good as (500) Days of Summer, so if this is in fact what ends up being the final cast for the main three heroes of the film, I’ll dig it.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
