GWEN STACY. And just like that, the internet let out a collective “WHAAAAAAAAAAT?”

As confirmed on various sites all over the interwebs (but specifically for us, at Deadline), Emma Stone the (often in promotional pictures) red head will be playing Gwen Stacy the blonde head. As Webb said in the official press release,

“The chemistry between Andrew and Emma was stunning and made Emma the clear choice. At the heart of the story of Peter Parker is not only the amazing Spider-Man, but also an ordinary teenager who is wondering what he has to do to get the girl. Andrew and Emma will bring everything audiences expect to these roles, but also make them their own. Much to my surprise, it was fun to find out that our choice for Gwen (Emma) is also a natural blonde.”

It makes sense, I suppose. I mean, it has been said they wanted Gwen Stacy to be the love interest, but … Emma Stone already looks like a young Mary Jane. And wasn’t there going to be a love triangle thing anyway? Rumors, rumors, rumors. Either way, there ya go, fanboys. For once, Gwen Stacy will be played by a natural blonde. I can only assume that when they finally cast Mary Jane, they’ll cast another blonde that we all can’t stand but put up with anyway! Huzzah!

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
