Growing up, Mike Wieringo was one of my absolute favorite artists in the business. When I fell in love with The Flash, it was thanks to the art of ‘Ringo, and he’s eternally been someone whose art has created excitement in me if only because you can tell he is so excited about crafting art himself. He became someone whose name would make me want to pick up a book, whose “‘Ringo!” signature instilled the greatest of hopes for a book in my mind.
When he died three years ago, he left an indelible mark on the industry. With today being the anniversary of that day many people paid tribute, and artist Eric Canete paid a particularly great one with his illustration of Tellos characters Jarek, Koj and Sierra on his blog. I love this tribute, and it is yet another reason why Canete should be way bigger than he is and why ‘Ringo was a champ that will forever be missed.
