You may remember earlier this year when we told about Joey Esposito and Sean Von Gorman’s “Pawn Shop”, an “Essex County”-esque love letter to New York and a rather compelling graphic novel that very poignantly touched on the lives of people. And while that graphic novel is now available online, Esposito and Von Gorman have decided that it is time to take the book to everyone’s favorite digital platform as well.
Debuting today on Comxiology, “Pawn Shop” will be serialized over its four installments for $0.99 a pop. Each story will tell an individual little tale about someone in New York, and when all four have been released they will paint a very intricate and interesting picture for those following along.
The first chapter is available on Comixology now. Take a look at a preview below:

Here’s the solicit for the first individualized chapter:

PAWN SHOP, the graphic novel from Joey Esposito and Sean Von Gorman, is getting a digital release courtesy of the world’s premier digital comics platform, comiXology. The four-chapter graphic novel will be serialized into four issues, released weekly and priced at 99 cents each, beginning Wednesday, April 9, 2014.
Pawn Shop is the interconnected tale of four New York City residents – a widower, a nurse, a punk, and a city employee – whose lives are woven together through the ecosystem of the Big Apple. It’s the story of four lives out of eight million.
“We wanted to try something different for the digital debut of Pawn Shop, and thanks to the folks at comiXology, we could,” Esposito said about the serialized release. “The comiXology Submit program is a game changer, and I’m so glad Pawn Shop could be a part of that family.”
“I am so excited that Pawn Shop is coming to comiXology, the premier digital comic distributor,” added Von Gorman. “It will be fascinating to see how readers react to the story in weekly chapters. The complete volume has way too many feelings to process in one sitting. You need a break between installments.”
Pawn Shop is published by Esposito’s boutique comic book imprint Soup Dad Comics. It has garnered critical acclaim since its release, with USA Today’s Brian Truitt saying: “With four stories of love, loss, pain and hope, Pawn Shop is at its heart both a memorable love letter to New York City and a touching study on the interconnectedness of us.” Multiversity Comics agreed: “In Pawn Shop, Esposito and Von Gorman weave a fictional web of hope, loss, fear, redemption, courage, and love, told across one of the most iconic hives of human highs and lows; New York City.”
