Marvel Studios have released the first trailer for the Eternals movie, directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Chloé Zhao:
Narrated by Salma Hayek as the Eternals’ spiritual leader Ajak, the trailer introduces the godlike beings as helping nurture the development of prehistoric humans thousands of years ago, culminating in the founding of the city of Babylon (seen with its distinctive blue walls). However, Ajak makes clear that her people have sworn not to interfere in the affairs of humanity — until now.
All of the principal players are shown in quick succession: Gemma Chan and Richard Madden are seen first, and then throughout the centuries, as Sersi and Ikaris, before Angelina Jolie as the warrior Thena; Hayek as Ajak; Brian Tyree Henry as the technologically adept Phastos, and Lia McHugh as the child-like Sprite; Lauren Ridloff as the agile Makkari; Don Lee as Gilgamesh; Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, an Eternal who lives among humanity as a Bollywood star; Barry Keoghan as the telepathic Druig; and Kit Harington as Dane Whitman, Sersi’s human love interest.
The trailer concludes with a dinner hosted by Gilgamesh, where Sprite asks who will lead the Avengers following the events of Avengers: Endgame. Thena, Kingo, and Gilgamesh all laugh, while Sersi stays quiet, when Ikaris suggests he might.
Eternals releases in theaters on November 5, 2021.
