As seen over at Polygon, it appears that we can shut down today because we’ve already gotten the best news: Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham is coming later this year, Fall 2014.
Set to hit consoles later this year (and apparently utilizing some New 52 costuming), the third installment in DC’s successful Lego franchise that features all the Justice League but still retains Batman’s name in the title is going much bigger. With apparently 150 playable characters (both good and evil) and an intergalactic plot, the game takes us into space where Batman and friends having to go up against the Legion of Doom only to realize a much bigger, mutual threat: Braniac.
The Lego games have been a delight so far, but if I have one complaint about the previous Lego Batman 2, it’s that you could only play as the Justice League at the end or in the open-world sandbox environment (unlike Lego Marvel, where the cast differed per mission). Now it appears that you get to play as the Justice League from the start, and the only inherent complaint I have is that Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill aren’t reprising their Lego Movie roles as Superman and Green Lantern again.
Full of gadgets and gizmos aplenty, new Lego games spell plenty of fun for adults and kids. Which is my way of saying: HECK YES, LEGO BATMAN 3!
