FanExpo ’12: The Dark Avengers Is Still The Dark Avengers But Different

Since Jeff Parker came on “Thunderbolts” in 2009, the book has gone through quite a few changes. First it was about the “Dark Reign” iteration of the team, followed by a soft reboot for “the Heroic Age” before getting mixed into “Shadowland” and “Fear Itself” and soft rebooting once again into a time travel book for a BRAND NEW ERA! (see what they did there?) before finally becoming “Dark Avengers” earlier this year just in time for a “Thunderbolts” anniversary. But the changes don’t stop there! Oh, no.

As we pointed out in the November 2012 solicit commentary article for Marvel, it looked like Jeff Parker was wrapping up his Thunderbolts story in “Dark Avengers.” And we weren’t wrong! In December, “Dark Avengers” will get a new leader, a new team and a new artist, as revealed in a FanExpo-related interview at MTV Geek. Out goes Luke Cage, and in comes US Agent once more (who was on the team up until “Siege” where he lost the use of his legs). The old team is out to be replaced with a new one (and a “new” Moonstone) for a story Parker describes as “like they died and were sent to hell” and like a “very Marvel version of ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK.” Sounds fun so far.

But the best part — the very, very bestest part? Neil Edwards is joining the book as the ongoing artist now. Boom!

Check out the full interview at MTV Geek for more and look for the not-a-relaunch relaunch in December.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
