Fantagraphics to Release the Complete Eightball

Announced over the weekend at Comics Reporter, it looks like Daniel Clowes’ seminal series “Eightball” will be collected in one singular slipcase two-hardcover set in August of 2014, because Fantagraphics loves you and thinks you deserve the best. Listing for $95 for 454 pages of comic greatness, this comes just at the 25th anniversary of the initial release of the book and will include all covers and additional commentary from Clowes to go alongside it.

However, it’s odd to call this the “Complete” set as there were 23 issues and this contains 18, but some of this material has been collected elsewhere, mind you. There was a collection of “The Death Ray” most recently that was really well put together, and there’s the collection of Eightball shorts released about a decade ago. Plus there’s, y’know, multiple editions of “Ghost World” and graphic novel collections of “David Boring” and “Ice Haven.” But still — this is rather amazing news.

Waiting until August 2014 kind of stinks, but hey, at least you can finally stop obsessively hunting on eBay for the issues you’re missing.

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
