Today Fantagraphics released a teaser for a March 2016 release, seemingly asking for patience. Or maybe that’s the title? Either way, besides the fact that this is something, “five years in the making,” they’re not giving us much else to go on.
I’ve been looking at this image for the last ten minutes trying to figure out the ‘who’ and ‘what’ of it. No luck screen grabbing those tiny pages and image searching them, and nothing comes up after scouring Fanta’s website and tumblr. Am I losing cred for not immediately recognizing the art, or already being in the know on this? Probably not, but if there’s something I’m missing, shout it out in the comments.
If I were forced to hazard a guess, I’d say this feels like a Box Brown coloring/layout job. But he’s been so busy with other projects that I don’t know that it’d even be possible. But then maybe that’s why it’s been so long in the making? Or probably it’s not even him at all! Let the speculation begin!
UPDATE: Unless Box has started sharing studio space with Dan Clowes then it ain’t him.
