“The Fantastic Four” Trailer Drops and Honestly We Don’t Know What’s Happening

Earlier this morning, the first trailer for Josh Trank’s reboot of Fantastic Four hit the internet and yeah we don’t know what really happened. Check it out for yourself.

There’s a shot of The Thing making his first transformation, Miles Teller being too precious for this world and the freakin; Negative Zone. That said, there’s not a whole lot to this trailer where we can pull out specific clues of what’s going to happen, at least compared to trailers for movies like Age of Ultron, but that’s a good thing. A huge problem with superhero movie trailers lately is they more or less tell you what’s going to happen. It’s why every Marvel movie needs one major swerve like The Mandarin in Iron Man 3 or SHIELD in Winter Soldier or else they stand revealed as astoundingly formulaic. Okay, the Fantastic Four trailer does that overdone thing where a villain says a monologue that doesn’t mean anything but has big words like CONSEQUENCES and SACRIFICE throughout the trailer but at least it doesn’t give anything away. Instead, this actually teases stuff, something a teaser is supposed to do, that makes me want to actually see the movie than before.

This movie’s gotten a lot of haterade from people on the internet who I try not to talk to, but honestly that seems to be mostly unfounded. Josh Trank’s a great filmmaker, especially for superhero movies, and he’s got an incredible cast. If Johnny Storm dies halfway through only to be brought back as a super solider with sword hands who’s had his mouth stitched shut, I will rescind my opinion.

The Fantastic Four comes out in theaters August 15th 2015.
