Via ComicBook.com, Ubisoft and Dark Horse Comics have announced the first Far Cry comic book, “Far Cry: Rite of Passage.” Written by Bryan Edward Hill, with art by Geraldo Borges, the three-issue series will lead into the upcoming video game Far Cry 6, and follow the villain of the new game, Antón Castillo, during his 13-year old son Diego’s birthday.

Each issue will see Castillo using the occasion to give Diego “important lessons in leadership,” and “cautionary tales” about the main antagonists from the previous entries, namely Far Cry 3’s pirate lord Vaas Montenegro; Far Cry 4’s Himalayan dictator Pagan Min; and Far Cry 5’s Montanan cult leader Joseph Seed.
Marie-Joëlle Paquin, the product director for Far Cry, said, “Thanks to a wonderful collaboration with Dark Horse, we are thrilled to share with our fans the very first Far Cry comic series. Through Bryan and Geraldo’s amazing work, we’ll get a fresh look into our beloved villains’ dark pasts. We can’t wait for everyone to fall down this rabbit hole with us.”
Begun in 2004, Far Cry is a series of first-person, open world shooter games, which typically pits players against despots in exotic locations. Far Cry 6, which will be released on all major gaming platforms sometime later this year, will star Giancarlo Esposito as Castillo, the ruler of a fictional Caribbean island, and Anthony Gonzalez (Coco) as Diego.
“Far Cry: Rite of Passage” #1 will be released in comic book stores and online on May 19, 2021.
