Yesterday we shared a preview of the upcoming “Madman 20th Anniversary Special,” a collection of new stories from a dream team of creators (like the 1992 USA basketball team, not the 2011 Philadelphia Eagles) about our favorite man from Snap City. Mike Allred’s creation has a long legacy of awesomeness, and with his anniversary coming out Image Comics is pulling out all of the stops with this book. It features contributions from creators like Los Bros Hernandez, Darwyn Cooke, Frank Quitely, Paul Pope, Frank Frazetta, Moebius and any number of others, plus an all-new Allred joint.
On top of that, yesterday artist Michel Fiffe shared the story of how he became a fan of Madman and how he came to get the job of creating a pin-up of epic proportions with the help of Mike and Laura Allred. This piece will go into the 20th Anniversary Special and highlights an enormous cast of independent comic characters, ranging from Hellboy and The Goon to Emi Lenox from Emitown and Newman Xeno. It’s an amazing work and worth the price of admission in its own right, if only because it’s the only place you can see Spawn and Scott Pilgrim play Galaga.
