A mysterious figure in an ill-fitting Spider-Man Halloween costume.

Wasn’t there a kid in an ill-fitting Spider-Man costume once? I believe the scene looked like this:

Miles Morales' First Appearance in Ultimate Fallout

Funny how those things work out, right?

Spider-Men #5

Our speculation isn’t entirely without basis, mind you. In “Spider-Men” it was teased that Miles is somewhere in the 616, although where was a mystery. The revelation even seemed to shock Peter (now dead), though just having a kid show up with the Mighty Avengers doesn’t seem too shocking. Yet, with the book featuring mostly minority characters in what seems to be a concerted effort to diversify Marvel’s line-up more and given the fact that other aspects of the Ultimate Universe have been crossing over into the 616 (see: Nick Fury Jr.), it wouldn’t be completely unrealistic to have Miles Morales make his official debut in the 616 as a member of the team.

That said, Miles is not the only person to don a Halloween costume. There is another rather famous character in Marvel’s history to take up the mantle of Spider-Man.

No, we’re not talking about Ben Reilly. Not even Kane. We’re talking about:

Spider-Man 2099

To conceal his identity originally, Miguel O’Hara donned a form of costume for the Mexican Day of the Dead that would in turn become the idea for him to become the Spider-Man of 2099.

And he’s coming back. That’s been 100% confirmed. Maybe he’s hopping out of “Superior” and into “Mighty Avengers”? That seems as plausible as anything else, and perhaps even more so than Miles — and it would stick with the idea that the Mighty Avengers is a book that exists to diversify Marvel’s line and the cast of their universe. Miguel Rivera being Spider-Man on a second Avengers team does make a lot of sense.

Or it could just be some homeless person or something. Who knows? Maybe it’s ROM Space Knight.

There is also the question of who the team’s new Ronin will be, but we’ll save that one for later.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
