BOOM! Studios have announced a new Firefly graphic novel starring Alan Tudyk’s pilot Hoban “Wash” Washburne, “Firefly: Watch How I Soar.” Written by Ethan Young (“Nanjing: The Burning City”) with art by Jorge Corona (“Middlewest”), the book will take place during Wash’s death in the movie Serenity, using his life flashing before his eyes as a framing device to explore key moments for the character, from meeting his wife Zoe, to joining Captain Malcolm Reynolds’s crew as the pilot of the Serenity.

The book will include new adventures in the retelling of Wash’s life, and BOOM! Studios hinted it will expand on his death scene as well, cryptically stating that “Wash will reach out to connect with a surprising someone he never thought possible… proving that some bonds transcend this mortal coil.”

In the press release, BOOM! Studios Executive Editor Jeanine Schaefer states, “From the moment we first met him playing with his toy dinosaurs, Wash has been one of the most beloved members of the Firefly crew, and ‘Watch How I Soar’ gives us everything we ever wanted to know about our favorite hotshot pilot and space husband. We’re excited to explore this new ground that fans have been asking us to cover. Get ready for some very big stories you’d never imagine we could tell.”

“Firefly: Watch How I Soar” will be published in November 2020. This will be the second original graphic novel in the Firefly ‘Verse at BOOM!, following last November’s “Firefly: The Sting.”
